Prestigious customers in North America
Operations and Market
Precise Biometrics has been in business on the American market since 2001 and has established itself well in the region. Precise Biometrics’ business in North America is operated from the subsidiary in Washington, DC.
The corporate brand is strong in the US, which is a result of the company having several prestigious end-customers in the region.

Trends
The interest in biometrics is mature in the US and the market has stabilized. As an example, the interest in integrating biometrics with health and state ID cards has increased heavily during recent years.
As a result of increased focus on Cyber Security in the United States, the interest of biometrics solutions combined with logical access and smart cards has also increased. The national Cyber Security initiative aims at reducing the risk of infiltration in systems with information that is critical to national security.
The Match-on-Card market in North America is driven by several standardization initiatives, primarily through the government standardization organization NIST. The MINEX II initiative to validate standardization of Match-on-Card is an acknowledgement of the technology. In 2009 Precise Biometrics participated in Ongoing MINEX, an interoperability program initiated by NIST. Precise Biometrics’ fingerprint extractor showed the best result of all 43 participants that has ever entered Ongoing MINEX.
Due to the financial crisis a number of projects in the region have initiated with the focus on cost-efficient advantages proven by Match-on-Card.
The past year
The third quarter started with large orders to US government authorities at a combined value over USD 6 million. The combined orders are the largest placed in the company’s history. Delivery started during the second half of 2009 and final delivery takes place in the first quarter 2010. The order is a result of the US Cyber Security initiative, where large investments are made in IT security to protect sensitive information. The order is largely dominated by one customer, but the total order value relates to several government agencies, also focusing on Cyber Security.
Precise Biometrics also participated in the RSA Conference 2009 in San Francisco in April. The RSA Conference is the largest and most important annual market event within information security. An exhibition is also held together with the conference. Precise Biometrics participated at the exhibition in Gemalto’s and Microsoft’s booth, displaying a Match-on-Card solution for Microsoft Windows.
