"Match-on-Card plays important role”

The demand for biometric systems has increased in the expanding market of Eastern Europe during recent years. Poland is one of the most active countries in the region and in 2009 Precise Biometrics initiated cooperation with PWPW (Polish Security Printing Works), the Polish market-leading provider of secure documents.

Leader in Poland

The request for fingerprint recognition solutions has increased during the last two years in Eastern Europe. PWPW, is the leading supplier of secure documents in Poland. Martin Šimka is a cryptography consultant at PWPW.

- PWPW has a long tradition of secure documents - we actually go back more than 90 years. And we recently signed contracts that will guarantee us the leading position in the field of driver and vehicle documents in Poland for the coming ten years, says Martin Šimka.

Broad application provider

PWPW is the supplier of the Polish ID-card. But they offer a wide range of secure documents, and they are constantly expanding to new markets.

- We supply the full package; production and issuance of many different sorts
of secure documents; bank notes, stamps, passports, ID-cards and different kinds of license cards. We are mainly active in Poland but have projects all over Central and Eastern Europe and Asia.

Increased interest for Biometrics

Martin agrees with the fact the interest for biometrics has increased in Eastern Europe during recent years.

- We definitely see an increase in requests for biometrics even though the acceptance of biometric applications differs from country to country. And in that aspect Match-on-Card plays an important role as it enables matching and storing of fingerprints in the card, thus protecting the integrity of the card-holder.

Biometric arena solution

In 2009, PWPW and Precise Biometrics initiated cooperation.

- We were looking for a supplier of Match-on-Card technology and the choice was simple as Precise Biometrics is number one in the area.

PWPW wants to use Match-on-Card in an arena solution where visitors who enter for example sport events can be identified.

- There is a new law in Poland that requires that all visitors to large events, such as the first league of soccer, should be identified. This gave us the idea to create a sport pass for pre-registered visitors with Match-on-Card.

The SportPass is in an early stage of development but with ten large arenas being built in Poland at the moment, it has future potential.

Interesting future for Match-on-Card

Martin means that a move towards Match-on-Card solutions is natural and in the near future we probably will see an increase of Match-on-Card related projects, especially in the corporate sector.

- The need for more secure and cost-effective solutions is constantly increasing and corporate projects often requires less time to implement, compared to government projects. That’s why I believe enterprises will stand behind this first substantial wave of biometric applications in Poland and Eastern Europe.
