The Japanese OKI company has embedded Precise Biometrics’ fingerprint technology in some of its chips. These chips offer great cost-effectiveness for companies seeking to integrate fingerprint technology in their products and can also be used in consumer electronics and locking systems.

Market potential

The market for fingerprint sensors in laptop computers is still a volume market, although the computer market has had a challenging financial year. The market shows indications of a recovery, volumes of laptops sold are increasing again and in average about 20 % of all new laptops include a fingerprint sensor.

In the coming years, mobile units such as mobile phones will begin incorporating integrated sensors, which is expected to turn to substantial volumes in 2012.
