National ID cards
The market and what we offer
Today, many countries specify Match-on-Card requirements when procuring smart ID cards. Precise Match-on-Card™ offers many advantages in terms of security, flexibility, personal integrity and easy implementation.
One interesting application area is drivers licenses, which can benefit from the same advantages as national ID cards, i.e. fast and secure personal verification without the need for network connection.
Other closely related areas to national ID cards include patient cards. With patient cards, government agencies, insurance companies and hospitals can reduce the risk of fraud, errors and burdensome administration of patient identification.

References
The list of Precise Biometrics’ references today includes national ID cards for Thailand, Portugal, Bahrain, Qatar and Venezuela. The company has won all tenders for national ID cards specifying Match-on-Card technology since 2005.
The segment will continue to be a priority area for Precise Biometrics as the growing markets in the private sector mature.
Market potential
It is estimated that in the next five years, more than one billion national ID cards based on smart card technology will be procured. A large quantity of these is expected to specify Match-on-Card. This can be compared with the close to 100 million licenses sold to date around the world, whereof Precise Biometrics supplied the large majority. Thus, Precise Biometrics is today the dominant supplier. Standardization within the industry has led to increased competition and pressure on prices, while it also confirms the market potential. It is quite reasonable for Precise Biometrics to aspire on a considerable market share looking five years ahead as volumes drastically increase.
The markets for biometric patient cards and drivers licenses have great volume potential but they are still at an early stage. As the implementation of these cards will be complex and tender procedures will be long, their full potential lies farther in the future.
Partners
Partners in the segment are chip manufacturers, major card suppliers, such as Gemalto, and system integrators at the global and regional level.
