SIM cards

The market and what we offer

At a time when ever more services are being transferred to our mobile phones, the need for secure identification of phone owners is also increasing.

Precise Match-on-Card™ is easily transferred to SIM cards. Contactless technology such as NFC (Near Field Communication) expands the options of using mobile phones for such things as payments and travel using fingerprint recognition.

The SIM card segment accounts for approximately 80 percent of the smart card market, equivalent to a volume of more than three billion cards a year.

The segment is expanding; in 2009, Precise Biometrics continued the process of identifying interesting players and developing proof-of-concepts for the telecommunication industry.

In 2009, Precise Biometrics won SIMagine, an international competition for innovative ideas for the SIM card market. The company’s competition entry, Precise Match-on-SIM™, was a solution combining SIM cards, contactless NFC technology and Precise Match-on-Card in a mobile travel solution.

Market potential

This is a market segment in early development. It is too early to assess the size of the market for Match-on-SIM today. However, judging by volumes of SIM card sales, which are also steadily increasing, it should far exceed all the other segments in which the company operates. The market is expected to develop in 2010 with proof-of-concepts and test installations and then pick up speed.

Market evaluation shows that fingerprint sensors on mobile phones will enter the market in 2011, and substantially increase in volume in 2012.

Partners

Potential partners in this segment are primarily mobile phone operators and system integrators as well as smart card suppliers.
